I began my love of clay during a high school art class where I was provided a short window into the world of clay. It was love at first touch. I knew someday I would work in clay but never considered an education or career in clay.
I was born and raised in South Dakota and graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Fashion Retail. I did my internship for graduation in a Dallas department store. During my internship in Dallas I fell in love with Dallas and never left. In hindsight I feel I fell in love with the colors and textures of clothes and not the business end of it. This love of color and texture can be seen in both my clay and glass work today. I worked in retail and wholesale clothing for a few years and later found employment at an oil company. I returned to school to obtain my MBA for my career but never lost my love of clay.
After my work related education was completed, I began taking night classes at a local Junior college and continued taking classes for the next 17 years. I also did every local clay workshop I could find. I was totally hooked. In 2004 I added fused glass to my line of art work. Fused glass gave me the opportunity to work with all the color I love. After taking early retirement from the oil company we moved to our home in beautiful East Texas on Lake Cypress Springs.
Being an accountant I am a very detailed person which carries over to my art. I have always worked in clay very tightly and controlled. I am striving to loosen my style which is seen in some of my newest pieces. My love of detail comes through in my clay work in carving texture and painting. I see my analytical side in glass also with strong use of geometric shapes. Both my fashion and accounting backgrounds play heavily in my art today.
